Hi! I'm Emily, your crafty go to girl. I love all things crafty! I enjoy sewing, scrapbooking, photography, card making, DIY projects, home decor, photo projects, personalized gifts, stamping, jewelry making and just about anything that involves creativity. I run a small Etsy shop called paperpixie crafts. I also have my products in several local shops. I am slowly but surely extending my line of products. My goal is to start filling up my Etsy shop and then eventually open a local boutique. Luckily, I have a wonderful husband who can tolerate my craft obsession, and a great family who is always supportive of my goals. This blog is a sneak peek in to my life and my creative thoughts. I'll be sure to keep you posted with all the cool stuff I see along my crafty journey. Thanks for reading!

dotty toile overall inspiration STRIKES GOLD!

Several Tuesdays ago I spent the morning rummaging the yard sale, antique, junkin, rebel flag & ninja throwing star selling, "I cleaned out my closet from the 80's" bearing, Trade Grounds. Known around this area as "Trade Day."
Though most of the stuff is "Pure-D" Junk, I rarely leave empty handed. ( =
The particular Tuesday I'm speaking of- was an exception. I went home with a car full of lucky finds that day.
Note worthy finds:
- A vintage rolling travel trunk that I'm considering decopodge-ing. $8
-Clear multi-colored canisters with shiny silver lids (that I'm sure will be used for some sort of craft storage) 3 for $1
-A HUGE rubber maid FULL of sewing patterns!! It has everything from pajamas to wedding gowns dating from the past year to the early 60s. I was so proud of this find. Expecially since I claimed it all for only... drum roll please... $5!! Thats right! AND the fella even thew in 2 industrial size rolls of taffia fabrics. I can't wait to get my hands on some of those new patterns!
But back to my original post theme- Although I found all those great things- my real mission was to find some children's overalls. I found only a few pair- but, couldn't complain with the days overall finds.
With no overall luck at "trade day," I've been searching local thrift stores and claiming all the little overalls I can get my hands on to start building my little stash. Why? Because I LOVE the way they looked trimed out in ruffles and ribbons. This dotty toile pair of overalls was made a while back and I've decided to try out some more for all the little lady's who are enjoying my dresses so much. I plan to work on some new overalls this week and will photo photos when I finish. If I get enough sizes in my overall stash, I'll start offering them in my Etsy shop as well.
Can you believe that this little pair of overalls inspired such madness- that ended in amazing junk sale finds? You just never know where a spurt of inspiration may come from- and more importantly... where it may lead. (=

I'm tutu Crazy!

How cute are tutus?
I've made them before- but I got on "a kick" ( thats what I call a "OMG I gota make this RIGHT now or my head is gonna explode from excitment" item on my crafty "to-do" list )
AND... I'm making tutus again.
This lime green and hot pink one is one of my favorites that I've EVER made. I think it's the texture of the tulle. It was a spool of Vintage- I mean really vintage- tulle that I bought from the coolest little craft shop in town where all the supplies are from the 50s. BUT the story of how we found this craft store... and how it came to resurface- is another blog post in its self. Remind me to tell you about it later. - sorry for the tangent.
Anyway- I also made the CUTEST lady big outfit for a friend of a friend's daughters 1st birthday party/ photo shoot. It is a red tutu with a big black satin bow. I also made red bloomers with a polka dot 1 appliqué and a tank top with a felted lady bug appliqué.Thanks for cutting out the appliqués Wendy!
The outfit just turned out so darn cute! It was a (mightnight walmart run-up til' 5 in the morning sewing) late night crafting session trying to get the outfit finished before the deadline- and I fogot to take a picture of the finished outfit, but I've been promised a photo shoot picture when they arrive ( = I'll post it when I get my hands on it.
Never the less- heres my lime green hot pink tutu. My favorite colors, bows, and handmade "girly-ness." Awesome.♥☆♪
☮☮☮ These are available in my Etsy shop for custom order. You choose your colors and size. Up to a size 5- $25.☮☮☮

I learned to...

Yes- I know, I've been away for too long- I've been working hard with my Crafty friend Wendy so that I can announce this Exciting news! I've learned to sew! Thats right. Little ol' me- Sewing away.
Ok- So maybe it wasn't THAT exciting... but it's exciting to me. ( =
I've been working to learn the tricks of the trade and I feel like I'm catching on pretty quickly. I have SO many people wanting clothes for their kids already. Each outfit looks better than the last and I am thrilled with each cool new trick that I learn. This week... I leaned to machine smock and I LOVE it.
Summer time, "in my neck of the woods", always means smocked dresses and swimsuits... so I hope that soon I will get up the courage to make myself some cute new dresses. Right now- I'm sticking to kids clothes but I'm planning on working on a adult top for Aunt Mandy this week. ( = I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.
Thank you Martha Stewart for featuring Heather Ross on your show this week so that I could follow along and actually SEE how smocking is done. That Was a HUGE help. AND thank you Wendy and Mandy for all the kind words about my work as I learn to sew. You guys keep me motived and give me a sense of accomplishment with your compliments. ( =
