About Me

My photo
LaFayette, Georgia, United States
Hi! I'm Emily, your crafty go to girl. I love all things crafty! I enjoy sewing, scrapbooking, photography, card making, DIY projects, home decor, photo projects, personalized gifts, stamping, jewelry making and just about anything that involves creativity. I run a small Etsy shop called paperpixie crafts. I also have my products in several local shops. I am slowly but surely extending my line of products. My goal is to start filling up my Etsy shop and then eventually open a local boutique. Luckily, I have a wonderful husband who can tolerate my craft obsession, and a great family who is always supportive of my goals. This blog is a sneak peek in to my life and my creative thoughts. I'll be sure to keep you posted with all the cool stuff I see along my crafty journey. Thanks for reading!

Tutorial Thursday- twirly skirt tutorial

I spotted a cute little blog called House on hill road. I ran across this twirly skirt tutorial and was inspired to create a similar one.
I've had a weird piece of orange-ish-red colored fabric, with tiny black & yellow flowers, staring at me for a few days now. I really wanted to use it for something but soon discovered that it was a really small scrap for a twirl skirt. Half way in to the project - I decided to use the casing (that should have been for a drawstring) for an elastic waistband casing. I also added some rick rack and a yo-yo button flower. My version looks nothing like Erin's tutorial- but I think it's cute in it's own little way. ( =
One day- when I have cute fabric aplenty, I will make a twirl skirt like the one in the tutorial. Erin has several tutorials that all look fabulous! Be sure to check them out.
Here friends is my little mishap skirt.

Wednesday week in review

It's been a busy crafting week. I am getting ready for my first photo shoot! I've recruited the cutest models and I'm really looking forward to building my sewing project portfolio. I'll keep you posted on how that goes. ( = Since I've been sewing so much this week- my photos are lacking but here's what I've got.
-1: Hubby Dylan playing in the pool at my parents during one of the scorching summer days we've been having lately.  -2: My yummy salmon I made for dinner tonight. We've been eating a lot of fish lately since fish bakes quick and that's less time to heat the house with the oven. I baked the salmon in fresh basil, carrots, broccoli and butter. yummy.  -3: My sister Katie modeling a ribbon tunic I made her for back to school.  -4: Babysitting for a friend Friday night.  -5: Me relaxing in the hot tub after a long day of back to school clothes shopping for Katie.  -6. Our puppy Georgia sitting on the porch with me during morning coffee.  -7. Katie jumping on the trampoline in her new shirt.  -8. Dylan and I before my early birthday dinner and a move date.
If your looking for me this week ( or anytime before school starts back ) you are sure to find me at the dinning room table with my sewing machine. ( =

Ta-DA Tuesday- Reclaimed Rocking Chair.

Hey guys! Thanks for stopping by for Ta-Da Tuesday! Today I'm sharing my reclaimed rocking chair project with you. I found this cute little rocker on freecycle.org. If you haven't signed up for freecycle yet, you should really check it out. It's a wonderful grass roots program that connects people who are giving away stuff they no longer want with people who would like to give said stuff a new home. ( =
You never know what you might find on freecycle. It's a great way to keep help the environment and score some cool stuff at the same time. I found this rocker locally from a lady who had purchased it with plans to restore it but after a new baby, found it ended up crammed in a shed collecting dust. I agreed to pick it up and give it a new home.
This poor little chair was in horrible shape. Missing spokes, half sanded, to wobbly to even sit in, and in complete disarray.  I started the project by wood gluing all the spokes back in to their holes and sanding down the rough parts of the chair. The chair was originally black and someone before me started sanding it back down to the original wood. I would have loved to left it the wood color but I just couldn't get all the black paint out of the carving detail on the back of the chair- so I decided to just paint it white. After gluing, sanding, and painting (SEVERAL coats of semi gloss paint!), I removed the seat of the chair, replaced the padding, and recovered it in a cute toile pattern that I had in my fabric stash. I also made a cute little pillow, in matching fabric to go with it.
I have this on my front porch right now, and I kind of like it there, so I am considering waterproofing it some. I think I will add a clear waterproof vinyl over the seat and a waterproof paint sealer to the chair- that way I don't have to run outside and grab the cushions every time it rains. But for now- I'm pretty proud of my rocker that cost me... $0! So- Go check out freecycle.org and see what you can reclaim today.

Introducing... Mr. Monday!

Apparently Mr. Monday isn't going to be as reader friendly as I suggested. So I'll be posting links like this one:

New format!

* Note the nifty new links at the top of the page! I really am trying my best to get organized. Hang in there with me. ( =

Hello everyone out there in blog-land. After much consideration and a little chat with the MR. I have decided that I really need to come up with a format for this blog if I want to keep it off the list of failed attempts. So I think I have decided on a daily “theme” to keep me on track. Let me know what you think of this lineup. Here’s what the list is looking like so far.

MR. Mondays- Mr. Mondays will be hosted by my wonderful hubby, Dylan. I wasn’t sure whether to call it Mr. Mondays or Music Mondays. I have no idea what he plans to share with you guys but I must warn you- he’s a bit of a music guru, so I’m sure you’ll be hearing about some of the greats. Who knows maybe he’ll post something crafty… but for now, I’m banking on man hobbies and opinions.  ( =

Ta-DA Tuesdays- On Tuesdays I’ll present a photo unveiling a project that I’ve been working on OR a fabulous shopping find and all the juicy details. (=

Week in review Wednesdays- Photos galore! Keep up with me with my week in review photo grid. Each week I’ll let you in the loop with photos and captions from my life’s favorite little moments. ( =

Tutorial Thursdays- Check in on Thursdays for a craft-tacular tutorial. I am the queen of blog stalking and I am constantly finding the cutest tutorials- I’ll share them with you here. I might even write a few tutorials of my own for you.  My own tutorial or not- either way, I’ll share tweak tips and photos of my project outcome. I always love seeing how each person interoperates a tutorial to create something unique. Maybe you’ll share your project photos too?

Frugal Friday- With the economy in the pits, everyone’s a little more frugal these days. I’ll share with you secrets for living frugal, stellar coupons and offers, as well as upcoming, budget friendly, family events in the Chattanooga Area.  You can’t afford to miss Fridays. So stop by, find something fun to do this weekend and save some dough in the process.

Snazzy Saturdays- Shop till you drop! I’m kinda addicted to online shopping. Each Saturday I’ll fill you in on what must have items I’ve added to my wish list.

Spontaneous Sundays- Sundays are free for now. I’ll leave spontaneous reviews and rants until I come up with a better “Theme.”  Any ideas?
And not to fear friends, I’ll still be hosting giveaways and interviewing artist at random. I’m always looking for sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring a giving away- message me. I’d love to have you.
I’m looking forward to following this new format and I hope that you guys will enjoy it. Let me know what you think. ( =
